The Taraba State Police Command on Friday confirmed that 10 people were abducted from the Uro Musa area of Jalingo, the state capital.

Usman Abdullahi, the command's public relations officer, said the victims were abducted early Friday morning.

Abdullahi announced that police were already tracking the kidnappers and called on anyone with useful information about the incident to contact police and other security agencies.

“Ten people were kidnapped at around 12:40 a.m. in Vro Musa,” he said.

Some local residents who spoke to DAILY POST called on the state government to cooperate with security agencies to rescue the victims unharmed.

The kidnappers are said to have stormed the area in large numbers, firing sporadically into the air to frighten those blocking their access to their targets.

Residents added that the kidnappers operated for several hours without any security personnel in sight.

Contrary to figures released by police, residents told reporters that 13 people, including four women, had been kidnapped.
