Members of a syndicate specializing in impersonating government officials, especially secretaries to state governments (SSGs), have been arrested.
Samsom Ibiloma, 52, a native of Dekina LGA of Kogi State, was arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s decoy squad during a raid at Walter Odili area near Enerhen Junction in Warri.
The suspect confessed to impersonating a government official and also admitted to defrauding the victim of more than N10 million.
He also named one Stephen Odimello as the mastermind of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Wale Abbas, then appealed to residents of the state who were victims of their fraudulent activities to visit the command headquarters or PPRO offices.
“His arrest comes as a continuation of a series of complaints lodged by several victims about a suspected fraudster impersonating the Secretary to the Delta State Government who defrauded victims seeking work of millions of naira. I was disappointed.
“For a long time, this syndicate has been operating under the pseudonym of Hong Jeong Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the Delta State Government. The suspect is in custody and efforts are on to apprehend other gang members who are on the run.” said the police chief.
