Police arrest man for allegedly stealing generator in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday charged Mr Fatyebi Kola, 32, at the Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a generator.

The defendant, whose address was not released, is on trial on one count of theft.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Caleb Leramo, informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on December 24 at about 9am in Orun Ekiti.

He alleged that the accused stole three Tiger generators worth about N300,000 from complainant Ajibade Gbenga’s shop.

According to him, the offense violated Section 324(1) and (2) of the Ekiti State Penal Code 2021.

He asked the court to suspend the case so he could examine the file and gather witnesses.

However, although the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, he had no legal representation.

Chief Justice Saka Ahunso granted bail of NOK 50,000 with one surety of the same amount and adjourned the case until January 8 for hearing.
