Police arrest four policemen on suspicion of kidnapping in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four personnel involved in the kidnapping of a hotel employee in Port Harcourt and subsequent ransom demand for their release.

The hotel employee, simply identified as Darlington, was reportedly stopped and snatched by the police near Choba in Obio/Akpor local government area of the state while on his way to work around 8pm on Friday last week.

According to reports, unscrupulous police officers searched the man's cell phone and body, but found nothing incriminating him.

However, after police determined where the man worked, they reportedly kidnapped him and threatened to kill him, as they had done in the past with other victims who did not comply.

The agents had threatened to kill him, brand him a kidnapper, demand a $1 million ransom and throw his body into the Choba River.

According to reports, police put the man in a truck and patrolled with him before finally transporting him to a bush near Alu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, confirmed the arrest of the officers at the Port Harcourt event and said they were in custody.
CP Dis said: “I found out about the incident on social media and despite that, I went out into town with other officers to respond.

We can confirm that the officer who came into contact with the victim has been arrested. I'm waiting for complaints from victims because I really want to know what to watch out for.

“Officials are there. We're not hiding anything, and if we get a complaint, we'll give you more details about what we did about it.”
