Police arrest 22 suspected bandits and declare another 30 wanted in Kano
The Kano State Police have arrested 22 bandits and declared another 30 wanted in a fresh crackdown on the resurgence of violent and bandit activities in the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who made this known in a statement on Thursday, March 28, 2024, said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ussaini Gumel, announced the corrective action of establishing the Anti-Daba Police operational base in Dorayi Karshen Waya.
“The Kano State Police Command has intensified efforts to quell all attempted emergence of violent activities by lawless street urchins known as “Yan Daba” around Dorayi neighborhood and in some parts of Kano and environs” , the statement said.
“The recent increase in violent activities in and around Dorayi Quarters within Kano Metropolis has raised concerns among both residents and authorities, where some people have taken advantage of the situation to spread fake news.
“While quickly responding to this growing trend, the Kano Police Command launched a targeted operation to curb these illegal activities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“During the operations, a total of twenty-two (22) suspected bandits (Yan Daba) were detained by the Police. These arrests mark a significant step towards restoring peace and security in the affected community, sending a clear message that such criminal behavior will not be tolerated.
“The Kano Police Command reaffirms to the public its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in the state. Furthermore, the swift actions taken to address the resurgence of these criminal activities underline the Command's dedication to ensuring security and well-being of all Residents of Kano.
“The suspects will be brought to justice after the investigation is completed.
“Looking to be on the same page, the CP organized a meeting at the Town Hall with stakeholders residing in the areas on the need to provide maximum cooperation and assist the Police in ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable. the meeting that the Anti-Daba Unit will be established in Dorayi Quarters Kano.
“The Commissioner of Police, while appreciating the peace-loving people of the State, urges the community to remain vigilant and cooperative in preventing and reporting criminal activities to help create a safer environment for all.
