Police arrest 11 suspected animal thieves in Jikawa


The Jigawa Police Command has announced the arrest of 11 people, including a Nigerian national, for allegedly stealing animals, cars, motorcycles and other items in three local government areas of the state.

Military Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Lawan Seeth confirmed the arrest on Wednesday.

Mr Seeth said the suspects were arrested in separate operations between December 22 and December 29, 2023 in Babura, Kiyawa and Sretankalkar municipalities.

He said one of the suspects, identified as Abdulhadi Saidu (25), a resident of Gujungu town, was arrested along with two cattle that were suspected to have been stolen along the Kiyawa-Barago road in Kiyawa. He explained that it was done.

The PPRO added that during interrogation, the suspect could not give a satisfactory explanation about the cow.

He said another suspect, identified as Ibrahim Rabiu (22), also a resident of Bakin Kaswa in Kiyawa City, was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of 15 pieces of roofing zinc.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing zinc from one of the homes in the area, Schiess said.

He said two of the suspects, Sagir Ibrahim, 27, of Makale Insharwa village, Babra town, and Zayanu Umar, 27, of Dugjabe village, were arrested in Babura LGA on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle.

According to the PPRO, the suspects confessed to conspiring to steal the motorcycle.

He said six of the suspects were arrested in Kazaure LGA for allegedly stealing two sheep, a goat and a generator in Kazaure LGA.

Sheath said the suspects, including Ibrahim Haruna, 25, from Tinkim village in Niger Republic, had confessed to the crime.

He added that the incident is still under investigation and the suspects will be arraigned in court thereafter.
