EPL: Rules have changed so you need to learn fast - Pochettino warns Chelsea star

Pochettino names Chelsea star who took six months to learn what was expected of him

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed it took Noni Madueke “six months” to learn what he expects from the club season.

Pochettino said this at Friday's pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's FA Cup third round match between Chelsea and Preston.

Recall that Chelsea acquired Madueke from PSV last year on a seven-and-a-half year deal.

The 21-year-old, who can play as a winger or attacking midfielder, has scored just four goals and provided no assists in 23 games for Pochettino's side.

Pochettino said of Madueke: “I'm very happy. It took him almost six months to understand what we expected from him.''

“Players need to improve, but he has improved quite a bit. His current actions and how he committed himself first, along with the rest of the ideas from the club.

“He has potential and talent in that he needs to do and do the things he needs to do in the future if he wants to be successful.

“It's a platform for everyone, and it's important that it's right in your heart and consistent in the way we propose they act.”
