Super Eagles coach Jose Peceiro has confirmed his resignation from the Nigeria Men's Senior National Team.

Peseiro, whose contract as Super Eagles coach expires on Thursday, February 29, 2024, announced his resignation via a post on his X handle on Friday.

“Yesterday, we signed a contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles,” said Peseiro.

“It's been 22 months of great dedication, sacrifice, emotion and a lot of enthusiasm. We feel fulfilled.”

On behalf of the behind-the-scenes staff, Peseiro thanked NFF President Amaju Pinnick, current NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, and General Secretary Mohamed Sanusi for signing the contract.

The Portuguese football tactician also thanked NFF Secretary General Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the staff and especially all the players, saying it was a great pleasure to coach alongside them.

“We're grateful, everyone. It's been an honor to be part of this family,” Peseiro said on X.

“We will miss you, but no matter where you are, we will always be there for you. Sending you all a big hug.”

Peseiro led the Super Eagles in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Ivory Coast on February 12.

However, although the Super Eagles did not make much of an impression before the tournament started, they lost to the host country Ivory Coast 2-1 in the final, winning the silver medal.
