On Sunday, United Nigeria Airlines flight NUA0504 bound for Abuja from Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, landed at Asaba International Airport in Delta State.
The development was apparently a shock to passengers, but is said to be due to poor weather in the capital’s destination.
One of the passengers, @dawisu, used a confirmed X-handle to drag the airline, lamenting that the flight attendant announced that the plane would be landing in Abuja even though they knew it had been diverted. Ta.
“We boarded a plane to Abuja and the plane took us to Asaba. There was also an announcement: “We will be landing at Abuja Airport soon.” Well then, boom! Asaba Airport came into view. United Nigeria Airlines is an airline after all,” he wrote.
Following this, the airline’s management, in a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Achilew Chudo Uchegbu, clarified that the announcement was incorrect.
He said the pilot of the plane was aware of the change in direction and was properly briefed.
“However, upon landing safely in Asaba, the flight attendant made an incorrect announcement, causing confusion for passengers.”
However, he said the aircraft landed safely in Abuja after the weather conditions at the destination improved.
