Oyebanji commissions 3.6mw Ekiti independent power generation project
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Thursday commissioned the 3.6 MW Ekiti Independent Power Project (IPP) in Ado-Ekiti in a move seen as a major step towards industrialization of the state.
Oyebanji, who conducted the commissioning at the project site at Bank Road, Ado-Ekiti, said the project would help alleviate power challenges faced by residents and businesses, while also improving the overall quality of life of the people of the state.
The commissioning of the IPP comes barely a month after the governor commissioned power projects in several communities in four local government areas of the state that have been without electricity for more than a decade.
Describing the IPP project as a game changer, Oyebanji said the project is a testament to his administration’s commitment to self-sufficiency in electricity supply and is aimed at bringing about rapid industrial development in the state through enhanced economic activities and employment opportunities. and towards growth and development.
The governor emphasized the importance of the project in meeting the state’s growing energy needs while reducing dependence on the national grid, and said his administration would take a series of measures to end Ekiti’s epileptic power supply problems. He stated that he had taken the following steps. .
He said the government would rehabilitate and reconnect the Gbonin/Aiyekire and Ekiti East 33KV lines to the national grid and evacuate energy from the 30MVA transformer at the TCN facility in Omisanjana to the Erijiyan and Ikogosi industrial tourism zones. The governor called on the people of the state to regard all electrical facilities in their territory as their property and to diligently guide and protect them from vandalism.
