Kiev said on Tuesday that two civilians were killed in a nighttime Russian drone and missile barrage on hospitals, mining buildings and other civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
Ukraine is bracing for an increase in Russian attacks on critical infrastructure, particularly energy facilities, as sub-zero temperatures persist.
In its latest statement, the Air Force said it had destroyed nine out of 10 Russian-launched drones and one cruise missile.
Moscow also targeted Ukraine with four guided missiles.
“The central city hospital in Selidove, Donetsk oblast, buildings at the Kotlyalevska mine and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged,” the military said in a statement.
Ukraine’s prosecutor general announced that one civilian was killed and eight others were injured in the attack on the hospital.
According to prosecutors, the attack on the mine killed a 63-year-old employee.
At least four people were killed in the town last week when Russian troops shelled residential buildings in the town.
Further north, in the Kharkiv region, a 29-year-old civilian man was killed in a house fire following shelling, the regional governor announced.
Last winter, Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving thousands of people in the cold and darkness for long periods of time, and Kiev has since received more air defense systems from its allies.
The Kremlin said at the time that Ukraine’s leadership was responsible for civilian suffering related to the prolonged blackouts because Kiev did not agree to Russian terms for ending the conflict.
