Ondo needs restructuring, the gap between government and people is too wide – Akinfolarin

Former House of Representatives member representing Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency, Mayowa Akinfolarin, on Thursday, decried the rift between the government and the people of Ondo State.

Mr Akifolarin stressed the need for urgent restructuring of the state to turn around its fortunes in the economic and agricultural sectors, insisting that the focus should be on the informal sector.

The former Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly and two-term federal lawmaker emphasized this when he announced his ambitions ahead of the governorship race in the state.

“You all will agree with me that Ondo State needs to be reconfigured. There is a need to reconfigure the developmental structure of the state.

“Recently, there seems to be a rift between the government and the people. Ondo State is full of human and material potential. It is one of the most prosperous states in the country. Because there are so many things that make us great.

“Ondo State is a place where 70 per cent of the population is fully engaged in agriculture. But no one is paying serious attention to it.

“All we are doing is bringing in projects that bring in money. We have to start paying attention to the informal sector, where the majority of the population is.”
