Ondo APC leaders reject Tinubu’s intervention and insist on Ayedatiwa as acting governor

Hours after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis rocking Ondo State, some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have empowered the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as Acting Governor. He insisted that it should be given.

With the support of Ondo APC progressive stakeholders, APC chiefs at the weekend argued in Akure that Mr. Ayedatiwa should be sworn in as acting governor in accordance with constitutional provisions to resolve the political malaise in the state.

Tinubu had called for the status quo and urged Ayedatiwa to continue as deputy governor.

However, Ondo APC officials after the meeting in Akure expressed concern over the continued absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, saying it was having a negative impact on the governance and economy of the state.

In a statement issued after the meeting and signed by the chairman, a former House of Representatives member, Mr. Afe Olowokere and the Chief Justice, Mr. Raman Rotimi, who is also a former APC secretary in the state, charged Mr. Ayedatiwa with the responsibility of acting as governor. He emphasized the urgent need for Congress to provide authority to take over.

“APC party members should be allowed to participate in deciding who is appointed or elected to political and party offices.

“Party elders and leaders must be recognized and given pride of place within the party, rather than being ignored or excluded from the party.

“We will use all possible political and legal means to oppose and resist the system of writing the names of party officials and candidates without due process,” the statement said.
