Ogun Poli shuts down, introduces online classes due to attacks on students

The management of Gateway University of Technology in Sapade, Ogun State has shut down the school following incessant bandit attacks on students.

Administrators have instructed students not to go to school for the next two weeks.

DAILY POST reported that armed robbers attacked polytechnic students, robbed them of valuables and even raped women. One student was killed and about nine others were injured in the recent robbery.
In the past two weeks, bandits have attacked students and residents of Isara, Ipara and Ode communities on a total of no less than three occasions.

Angered by the constant attacks, students staged a protest last week to express their discontent.

However, the situation forced the management to close the school until normalcy is restored.

In a memorandum signed by Acting Registrar of Polytechnics, JO Popoola, obtained by DAILY POST, the school management announced the introduction of online classes for students who have just resumed for the 2023/2024 academic session. did.

The memo states: “The administration has instructed all Polytechnic students to be informed that all physical lectures on campus will be suspended for the next two weeks starting Monday, December 4, 2023. .”

“In light of this situation, all students are advised that online lectures have started immediately. Students are therefore instructed to attend online classes to continue their lectures this semester.”

“All students are therefore required to refrain from entering the polytechnic premises until physical lectures resume at a date to be notified in the near future.”

The Chairman of the school’s Students’ Union Government, Mr. Olatunji Idowu Alexander, also confirmed the development to DAILY POST on Monday.
