Ogun: Adebutu returns to Nigeria amid suspicions of absconding

Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last Ogun state election, has returned to Nigeria after a nine-month medical leave in the United Kingdom.

The candidates returned to Nigeria through Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Mr. Adebutu’s media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, confirmed to our correspondent that his principal was returning home.

A video circulating on social media shows Adebutu celebrating at the airport with his running mate, Adekunle Akinlad, and other PDP leaders and supporters.

It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress had on several occasions accused Mr. Adebutu of evading the law over the alleged vote-buying in the March 18 gubernatorial election in the state.

The APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoy, who was recently appointed as the Senior Media Consultant to Governor Dapo Abiodun, made similar allegations against the PDP candidate just 24 hours ago to face the law. He urged them to return home.

However, the gubernatorial candidate has occasionally refuted the allegations via video, saying he had not fled but was staying in the UK for treatment.
