NSCDC recovers two bodies from Jikawa Pond

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State have recovered the bodies of two men who drowned in a pond in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command's Public Relations Officer, Badarudeen Tijani, the victims in the tragic incident were identified as Abubakar Alhaji, 20, and Abubakar Abdullahi, 25.

The men were reportedly on their way to the market in Waza village when they drowned while trying to cross a pond.

“This unfortunate incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday,” Tijani said.

The NSCDC Divisional Commander in Birnin Kudu, CSC Muhammad Garba, confirmed that troops received a distress call from local residents at about 11:30am.

NSCDC personnel, along with the Divisional Disaster Management Officer, were immediately deployed to the scene for rescue operations.

“With the help of local residents, we were able to recover the bodies of the two victims after about 48 minutes of search and rescue operations,” Tijani said.

The bodies were then taken to a medical facility in Waza and handed over to the families of the victims, who were both buried according to Islamic rites.

The Jigawa State NSCDC Commander, Muhammad Danjuma, condoled with the family and urged parents to be extra vigilant during the rainy season, noting that ponds and rivers in the area are dangerously flooded.
