The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that it has sacked and punished a number of employees found to be involved in ticket theft.
NRC Managing Director, Fidet Ohlia, said this on Wednesday during an interactive session hosted by the House of Commons Committee on Finance on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper 2024-2026 (MTEF/FSP). Ta.
He said the NRC was working with security agencies to combat this menace.
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee, James Faleke, expressed concern that the company’s revenue to be remitted in 2023 is only N345 million.
“What we are concerned about is that if we expect a lot of revenue from the NRC and we don’t get that, then we have a problem.
“I think the decision should be made that the railways should be self-funded and the surplus money should be sent to the government,” he said.
