Nigeria’s agro-processing zone project still on track – FG

The federal government said efforts to establish specific agro-industrial processing zones across the country are nearing completion.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, made the revelation in a briefing to state house correspondents after the conclusion of the National Economic Conference held in the capital Abuja later this month, presided over by Vice President Kassim Shettima.

He said the processing zone was built as part of a special initiative of the ministry in collaboration with the African Development Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Islamic Development Bank, the state government and private investors.

“At the National Economic Council, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with some international financial institutions, state governments and the private sector, made a presentation to the Council on Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones.

He said the plan would help improve agricultural management and agricultural processing.

The Agriculture Minister further said that each agro-processing complex has the capacity to create 3,000 to 5,000 jobs.

Mr. Kyari emphasized that the agricultural processing center will also contribute to solving the problem of losses caused by the lack of processing and storage facilities.
