NCC partners with customs on border security and anti-piracy efforts

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are increasing cooperation on border security and innovative anti-piracy methods.

NCC Director of Public Relations, Mr. Funmilayo Adewale, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.

Adewale said the partnership would reinvigorate measures to stimulate innovation and strengthen Nigeria’s creative economy.

She said the agreement was made during a courtesy call on the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, in Abuja by the NCC Commissioner, Dr. John Asane.

She said the leaders of both institutions recognize that intellectual property, especially copyright, is strategically linked to the country’s economy.

Mr. Adewale also lamented the damage caused by copyright infringement in this field.

“Both agencies are committed to implementing proactive ICT-driven measures and strengthening operations through training and intelligence.

“Sharing as envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to check piracy and other illegal activities in the copyright field,” an NCC spokesperson said.
