NCAA launches investigation into United Nigeria Airlines flight’s diversion to Asaba

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that it has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the diversion of United Nigeria Airlines flight NUA 0506 to Asaba and the public confusion it caused.
NCAA Secretary General Captain Moussa Nuhu disclosed this in a statement posted on the NCAA’s official X handle on Monday.
The agency confirmed that preliminary measures have been taken against United Nigeria Airlines.
However, preliminary measures are being taken pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
He said: “The authorities would like to reassure the traveling public that, as always, we will take all measures to ensure the continued safety of the aviation industry.”
DAILY POST reports that passengers expressed concern when a United Airlines flight landed at Asaba International Airport instead of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday.
As a result, wet-lease aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines have reportedly been grounded.
Meanwhile, the Head of Corporate Communications of United Nigeria Airlines, Mr Achilles Chad Uchegbu, claimed that the diversion was due to poor weather conditions at the destination.
The aircraft pilots were aware of the temporary diversion and were properly briefed at all critical points.
However, upon arrival in Asaba, the flight attendant made an incorrect announcement, causing confusion among passengers.
“Meanwhile, the aircraft landed safely in Abuja following improved destination,” he said.
