NBC appeals for support to draw Cross River-Ebonyi interstate boundary
The National Boundary Commission (NBC) has appealed to stakeholders in Cross River and Ebonyi to support continued efforts to demarcate the border between the states.
The executive director of the commission, Adamu Adadaji, appealed on Monday at a joint meeting of officials from the two states in Abuja to address the lingering interstate border dispute.
Mr. Adazi noted that the meeting was convened to examine the boundary situation and consider next steps towards its definition and delimitation.
He said the state border issue goes back several years.
He added that border villages are often embroiled in misunderstandings and confusion as a result of land disputes and indigenous settler dualism.
He blamed the ongoing conflict on undetermined and demarcated interstate boundaries, saying the state is one of Nigeria’s troubled interstate boundaries likely to endanger peace. He said that.
The border crisis necessitated the intervention of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his deputy, Atiku Abubakar.
The federal government was also forced to conscript military personnel to border areas in 2005 to keep the peace.
