Hardship: Uzor Kaluu urges Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu

NASS, not Tinubu, significantly increased budget for 2024 – Orji Uzor Kalu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu said the responsibility for pushing up the 2024 budget lies with the National Assembly.

Kalu disclosed this while speaking to newsmen shortly after a thanksgiving function hosted by the Ebonyi State All Progressives Congress, APC Chairman, Stanley Okoro Emega in Edda.

He said President Bola Tinubu should not be held responsible for the development.

“Let me tell you, it was the National Assembly, not the president, that pushed the budget to N28.2 trillion, and I am a senior member of its appropriations committee.

“We want to do a census and the government spent billions of naira on it but it was not budgeted for.

“They brought in new numbers from the National Population Commission and other relevant agencies, so the budget increased.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu knew nothing about it. We have been working on the budget, so it did not come from the president. If it is the president’s fault, say it is his fault. I mentioned earlier one of the reasons why the budget has expanded significantly.

“The National Population Commission (NPC) is spending a lot of money on the census, which is due to be carried out soon, but it lacks the funds to carry it out. If Nigeria loses $200, 89 billion. So we have to put that money into our budget,” Carew said.
