Nasarawa State Governor’s Court Judgment: PDP Goes to Supreme Court
Following Thursday’s Court of Appeal judgment quashing the removal of Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plans to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the judgment.
Nasarawa State PDP Chairman, Francis Enokela Ologu, in a statement on Thursday, disclosed the party’s next course of action.
DAILY POST reports that the Court of Appeal has annulled a court ruling that declared PDP candidate David Ombugadu the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election.
Ologu rejected the Court of Appeal’s ruling, calling it a temporary setback.
He called on party supporters to remain calm and believe that the Supreme Court will restore the party’s mandate.
The statement read: “The Nasarawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after careful consideration and consultation with its legal team, expresses its great importance to the judgment of the Court of Appeal invalidating the decision of the Electoral Petitions Tribunal that removed the governor from office. AA Sule has declared our candidate Dr. David Ombugadu as the duly elected Governor.
“While we respect the judiciary and the rule of law, we strongly believe that the Court of Appeal’s decision is inconsistent with the facts presented during the court proceedings. We have identified important grounds of appeal that we believe warrant review.
“Our party plans to appeal to the Supreme Court for a fair and thorough review of the Court of Appeal’s decision. We have faith in the legal system and are optimistic that justice will prevail.
“The PDP in Nasarawa State remains committed to upholding the democratic process and ensuring that the voice of the people is accurately represented. We continue to insist that it is a true reflection of the world.”
“We urge our many supporters, party members and the public to remain calm and maintain faith in the democratic institutions and judicial system of this great country. While we are surprised and pandering to the magical decision of the Nigerian Court of Appeal, we are grateful for the support and solidarity our members have shown throughout this period. We ask that you consider the ruling a temporary setback.
“The struggle for justice requires resilience and perseverance. The PDP in Nasarawa State is determined to uphold democracy and pursue justice for its people.”
