Nasarawa government sets date for LG poll on August 31st

The Nasarawa State Government has announced that elections for chairpersons and members of the 13 local government councils in the state will be held on August 31st.

Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) Ayuba Wandai disclosed this at a stakeholder meeting with stakeholders of the State Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) in Lafia on Tuesday.

He said the current chair and councilors were elected on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, took office on Friday, October 8, 2021, and will serve a three-year term until October 7, 2021.

“This is our second initiative, the first being in August 2023 in line with the legislation establishing the commission.

“The law mandates that preparations for elections begin one year before the end of a public official's term.

“The commission is a law-abiding body that has continued to promote compliance with the laws governing the conduct of LG elections in the state,” he added.
