NAF airstrikes kill Boko Haram commander Abu Asad and 100 others

Wanted Boko Haram commander, Abu Asad was killed alongside 100 others in an airstrike carried out by the Nigerian Air Force in the Mandara Mountains, Borno State, on Friday, November 24.

NAF Director of Public Affairs, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said the airstrikes also destroyed the terrorists’ structures as well as all their troop-carrying vehicles.

The statement read;

“In what could be described as arguably one of the most successful attacks undertaken by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on 24 November 2023, carried out air strikes against a concentration of terrorists in an isolated location . composed of 3 zinc-plated structures among several trees.

“From the images, it was evident that the terrorists were gathered at the location for a well-planned meeting or to prepare for a major attack on their troops.

“More than 100 heavily armed terrorists were observed playing games and moving randomly through the structures which also had four troop carriers. The aftermath of the airstrike revealed that 2 of the 3 structures, as well as all troop carriers, were destroyed.

“There are also indications that Abu Asad, a key figure in the Ali Ngulde group under Boko Haram, as well as other terrorists such as Ibrahim Nakeeb, Mujaheed Dimtu, Mustafa Munzir and several fighters were among the several terrorists eliminated in the airstrike.

“The Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has since commended the Air Component Commander and his men, urging them to continue synergy with the Land Component while maintaining momentum, “keeping terrorists on alert .

“We must continue to justify the trust that the Federal Government and our people have given us by ensuring that we do everything to make life unbearable for these terrorists and criminals until they surrender or are eliminated.”
