The Taraba State chapter of the National Association of Road Transport Operators (NARTO) has expressed concern over the decline in Nigeria’s economy and rising cost of living, which is severely impacting the transport industry across the country.
The state chairman of the association, Alhaji Haman Adama Tukur, told reporters on Friday at the NARTO office in Jalingo, the state capital, that the challenges faced by transport operators, particularly in the procurement of diesel, which is an essential element for operations. emphasized. .
“Transportation operators in our country face enormous challenges, especially in the procurement of diesel. Our trucks rely on diesel, which currently costs N1,750.00 per litre. ),” Tukur said.
He stressed that despite efforts to maintain operations, carriers are struggling to turn a profit due to exorbitant costs.
Mr. Tukur called on the federal government to take steps to reduce diesel prices and ease the burden to ensure business sustainability.
Addressing concerns about security insecurity, the NAARTO chairman revealed that the association is instructing drivers to avoid traveling at night and instead encouraging them to park in nearby towns and resume their journeys at dawn. did.
He further called on the government to deploy security personnel on highways to curb crime and ensure road safety.
In a separate development, Mr Tukur commended Governor Agba Cefas for investing millions of naira in constructing a trailer park in Pantinapu area of the state.
