Musk and Ramaswamy want to use DOGE to cut tax dollars for the abortion giant

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy say that as heads of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), they will cut major government spending and “shrink the federal government,” according to an editorial in the Wall Street Journal. And abortion advocates welcome her plan to target US abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, and Ramaswamy, the founder of pharmaceutical company Roivant Sciences, wrote for the Wall Street Journal that they had a “historic opportunity” to solve a long-standing problem.

“Most government enforcement decisions and discretionary spending are made not by the democratically elected president or even his political appointees, but by millions of unelected, unappointed officials within government agencies who, thanks to civil service protections, consider themselves immune from firing,” they say she wrote.

“This is anti-democratic and contradicts the vision of the founding fathers. It imposes enormous direct and indirect costs on taxpayers,” the statement continued.

President-elect Donald Trump announced the formation of the new efficiency department earlier this month, with Musk and Ramaswamy as leaders.

According to a statement from Trump, DOGE will advise his administration on how to “dismantle government bureaucracy, cut excessive regulations, cut wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies – essential to the Save America movement.”

According to Musk and Ramaswamy, progressive groups are among the biggest offenders, including Planned Parenthood, which brings in “nearly $300 million in annual federal spending” — a steep price to pay.

According to a fact sheet from Planned Parenthood, these numbers could actually be significantly lower than the actual amount. Just last year, the abortion giant reportedly received nearly $700 million in taxpayer money while performing a record 392,000 abortions. That's almost $2 million a day.

Planned Parenthood is already protesting Musk and Ramaswamy's plan to persecute them, saying its services “will disappear if they get their way.”

“Musk and Ramaswamy are making it clear how they intend to use their power: denying people care and wreaking havoc on our public health system, of which Planned Parenthood is an integral part – all in the name of supposed 'government efficiency.'” “We were here before – we are not new to ending and 'defunding' fights. We repelled a number of these attacks during Trump's first term – and Planned Parenthood health centers continue to serve millions of patients across the country,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

However, DOGE leaders say the U.S. Constitution is their “north star” for reform and that two Supreme Court rulings in particular “will undo decades of executive power grabs.”

Pro-life advocates point out that President-elect Trump could fully enforce the Hyde Amendment across all government agencies, even if DOGE faces obstacles in defunding Planned Parenthood.

Brent Leatherwood, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, sent a letter to Trump's transition team urging him to issue an executive order reinstating the change.

As CBN News reported, the Hyde Amendment is a provision that first went into effect in 1980 and blocks the use of federal funds to fund abortions except in rare cases to save the life of the mother or in situations where a pregnancy is due to rape or incest.

“By issuing an executive order committing to full enforcement of the Hyde Amendment,” Leatherwood wrote, “President Trump will usher in a renewed focus on protecting the lives and deeply held religious beliefs of taxpayers from government overreach.”

Meanwhile, DOGE says its goal is to help end overspending by July 4, 2026.

“There is no better birthday present for our nation on its 250th anniversary than delivering a federal government that would make our founders proud,” they wrote in the WSJ.

Pro-life advocates like Lila Rose, the founder and president of Live Action, a pro-life nonprofit organization, are reacting positively to the news.

“We need to defund Plann Parenthood. $699,000,000 per year is an outrage for an outside nonprofit. 34% of their revenue comes from taxpayers,” said conservative commentator Charlie Kirk on X. “Let them raise their own money. We shouldn't be subsidizing them!”

“Planned Parenthood, fund yourself,” said Kristin Hawkins, president of Students for Life for America.

Faith leaders also respond to the announcement, pointing out that God is using unbelievers to extract funds from Planned Parenthood's “satanic” work.

“We live in historic times. “Who would have ever dreamed that two billionaires who profess no faith whatsoever would be the ones funding the satanic project Planned Parenthood?” Eric Metaxas told the website ChurchLeaders. “This is stronger evidence that God does most of his best work outside the church. If only the church could actually see this and wake up.”

Worship leader Sean Feucht wrote, “God will use everyone to accomplish His purposes on earth. When weak 'Christian' politicians were spineless to do the right thing for decades, he used two unchurched billionaires to get the job done.”
