Mr. Kano: 100 people will die in fire accidents in 2023

The Kano State Fire Service has revealed that 100 people lost their lives in fire accidents recorded in Kano State from January to December 2023.

The agency also said that an estimated more than N451 million worth of property was destroyed in fires across the state during the period.

The department's public relations officer, Samine Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with reporters in Kano on Tuesday, saying the department received 659 fire calls in the year under review.

He added that the service had saved 417 lives and properties worth NGN 1.2 billion from various fire incidents recorded in the past year.

“In addition to rescuing two trapped animals, police also responded to 299 calls for help from state residents, 95 false alarms and 184 road accidents,” Abdullahi added.

He cited careless handling of cooking gas, use of inferior appliances, and storage of gasoline at home or in hazardous locations as causes of the fire incident.

He urged residents to be careful when handling flammable materials and other objects that could lead to a fire accident.
