The Chief Operating Officer of Green Energy International Limited (GEIL), Engr. Kayode Adegbrugbe, was awarded the Honoris Causa (D.SC) by the University of Benin at the just concluded 48th Convocation Ceremony.

The colorful ceremony held at the University of Benin on Saturday, November 25, included Dr. Kayode Adegbrugbe, former Governor of Lagos and immediate past Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, and Mrs. Betsy Obaseki. Commenting on the award, Dr Kayode Adegbrugbe said he was “honored and humbled” to have been recognized by the University Senate for his seminal contribution to the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Dr. Kayode Adegbulugbe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and later earned a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. To broaden his horizons, he completed a Master of Laws (LLM) in Oil and Gas Law with honors at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

He achieved remarkable feats in the Nigerian oil and gas industry as the COO of GEIL, the operator of the Otakipo oil field. Under his leadership, GEIL has become the country’s most productive marginal oil field operator, producing 11,500 barrels of oil per day as of October 2023.

One of his many outstanding accomplishments was leading the construction, installation, and commissioning of a 12 million standard cubic foot modular LPG extraction plant in the Otakipo field. This is the first modular LPG plant of this scale to be installed in the country. It’s an achievement that proves he’s undaunted by his previous serial number one accomplishments.

This achievement will significantly contribute to remediating the long-standing gas flaring that has plagued several stranded oil fields in the Niger Delta and will support the Nigerian government’s aspirations to combat gas flaring problems in the country. right.
