Manchester United talk to Garnacho about social media activity
Manchester United have spoken to Alejandro Garnacho after he liked a social media post criticizing coach Erik ten Hag over his treatment of players.
The Argentina international, who was sent off at half-time during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, liked two messages on X by United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge.
One post accused Ten Hag of “throwing[Garnacho]under the bus” after the United manager made comments about the 19-year-old's performance.
Another said that Garnacho “didn't have a good first half, but they replaced him at half-time and held him back saying the problem was a joke.”
Garnacho was quick to “hate” both messages, but the club considers the actions to be a sign of repentance, and a United source told the PA news agency that the matter had been dealt with internally.
The teenager has been a key player for United this season, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in 42 games.
The incident follows an incident in September when Jadon Sancho told X that he had been made a “scapegoat” after being left out of the squad for the game against Arsenal, and Ten Hag said he had not trained well. .
Sancho said: “I don't allow people to say things that aren't completely true”, which was interpreted as accusing Ten Hag of lying about why he wasn't in the team.
The 24-year-old was kicked out of the first team and moved on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January.
After the draw with Bournemouth, United are now seventh, 13 points behind the top four, with Ten Hag's position once again under pressure.
The FA Cup is United's only silver medal this season. United will face second division side Coventry in the semi-final at Wembley on Sunday.
