Ligue 1: Montpellier coach Der Zakarian is in awe of Akor’s quality
Montpellier manager Michel der Zakarian has said he has been surprised by Jerome Akor’s immediate impact on the club.
The Nigerian striker signed for La Paillard from Norwegian club Lilström in the summer.
However, the 23-year-old has settled well in his new surroundings and is producing a series of impressive performances for the former League One champions.
Akor has already made 11 appearances for Montpellier, scoring seven goals.
Only Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé has scored more goals in the French top flight this season.
“I’m surprised at what he’s doing. He adapted quickly to a championship that’s not easy. It’s very good to score goals and create chances like he does,” Der Zakarian said. told Ale Payard.
“He makes good sequences, decisions, technical gestures and likes to work. I don’t know if it’s a crack, but he scored 24 goals in 2023.”
Although Akor has made a strong start in Norway, Der Zakarian believes the former Flying Eagles striker has some areas to improve.
“He can still make a lot of progress. His size allows him to perform better in the air, both with timing and maneuverability. His hold-up play is impressive, and his stability The feeling is great. He runs with high intensity over and over again, which is amazing,” added the former Nantes coach.
