LCCI and Guangzhou City Council meet to chart a path to improving international trade relations


As part of its efforts to deepen and strengthen the strong relationship between Nigeria and China, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) hosted a 20-member delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Relations between China and Nigeria, which date back to the early 1970s, have made significant progress in recent years, reaching about $18 billion in the first three quarters of this year.

Currently, Nigeria is China’s third largest trading partner in Africa, and China is Nigeria’s largest source of imports.

In his speech, Yong praised the resilient entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerians, adding that about 30 percent of Guangzhou’s trade with Africa is with Nigeria. He said the Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce and Industry is willing to cooperate with LCCI to increase trade volume between the two countries.

In his address, LCCI Chairman Dr. Michael Olawale Cole highlighted several areas for investment in Nigeria including agriculture, housing, transportation and renewable energy. He said Nigeria is open and ready for investment and LCCI stands ready to support all aspiring investors.

LCCI Secretary General Dr. Chinyele Almona said the timely meeting was an opportunity for LCCI and the delegation members to reaffirm their joint commitment to the progressive improvement of trade, industrial and other relations between China and Nigeria. said. Promote friendship and understanding between the business communities of the two countries, and promote cooperation in trade, investment, technology transfer, services and industry between the business communities of the two countries.

As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that a memorandum of understanding would be signed between LCCI, CCPIT and Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Key activities planned include trade missions, technical training, B2B sessions, and continued engagement between all parties.
