Kwara United shun Salah as they prepare for match against Gombe United

Kwara United Football Club, desperate to avoid relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season, did not join other Muslims in celebrating Eid Fitri. Rather, they continued their intensive training ahead of their upcoming match against Gombe United in Gombe.

On Wednesday, the team's training session supervised by the club's technical advisor Kabir Dogo and coach Tunde Sanni began at 1pm and ended around 4pm amid inclement weather in Ilorin.

The Ilorin-based team is languishing in 18th place in the 20-team league, where the last three teams are relegated every season.

In their final home match, they drew 1-1 with Bendel Insurance, also known as Benin Arsenal, and this result sent them further into the murky waters of relegation.
On Tuesday, the team's management convened a meeting of stakeholders with a view to getting out of the relegation zone.

The team's general manager, Kumbititiloe, left the meeting expressing optimism that the club will avoid relegation this season.

“We are United and we will definitely be playing in this league next season,” he said.

Speaking to the Guardian about the developments, Sanni said he prayed for his team and promised that any lapses, particularly the striker's failure to convert chances in front of goal, would be rectified.

“With God's blessing, we will escape from the relegation zone. We will be even stronger next season and hope to bring smiles to the faces of our fans. However, we will continue to fight against relegation.'' We urge them to continue to support us,” he said.
