Katsina 2024 Budget: Water resources, education top government’s priority list


The Katsina State Government has proposed a budget of NOK 454.3 billion for 2024, putting water resources and education at the forefront of government priorities.

At a press conference at the Old Katsina Government House, the Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Bello H. Kagara, announced the breakdown of the 2024 budget tagged “Building the Future”.

Mr Kagara highlighted that the 2024 budget has increased significantly from 2023 to N153,675,604,150.96, marking a remarkable 51.11 per cent.

In breakdown, water resources and education led the funding allocation, securing 67,161,802,447.39 Naira (20.35%) and 66,422,889,400.21 Naira (20.13%) respectively.

Construction followed as the third priority area, with N53,484,733,251.59 (16 per cent) allocated.

Health and environment also received significant attention, securing allocations of N38,326,421,172.23 (11.62 per cent) and N37,700,116,210.24 (11.43 per cent) respectively, demonstrating the government’s commitment to these critical areas.

However, at the bottom of the priority list is the agriculture sector, which has been allocated N20,513,909,753.71 (6.21%) of the total capital expenditure.

Other Ministries and Agencies (MDAs) collectively set aside N46,371,646,360.60, accounting for about 10.2 per cent of the allocation.

Mr Kagara disclosed that out of the total estimated budget of N454,308,862,113.96, about 72.63 per cent (N329,979,518,595.97) was earmarked for capital expenditure and 27.37 per cent (N124,329,343,517.99) was allocated to recurrent expenditure.
