Kamala Harris chooses Tim Walz to be her vice presidential running mate
Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris has reportedly chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be her vice presidential running mate.
Vice President Harris told allies she chose the 60-year-old Walz, with The Washington Post citing “two people familiar with the election” in their Tuesday morning story.
Walz was reportedly favored because of his status as a military veteran and gun owner who previously represented a conservative Republican part of Minnesota while in Congress, the Washington Post said.

Ben Shapiro, a prominent conservative activist and co-founder of The Daily Wire, took to social media shortly after the news broke to claim that the election would benefit Republicans.
“Pleki Walz is a huge gift to the Republicans. He is a radical leftist from a non-swing state with a long history of crazy statements who presided over the burning of his state in 2020. Kamala chose him because he is not Jewish,” he. tweeted
Last month, after questions about his mental and physical fitness, President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek re-election, and endorsed Harris for the Democratic Party nomination.
“My first decision as the party's nominee in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it was the best decision I made,” Biden said last month.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party's nominee this year. Democrats – it's time to come together and defeat Trump. Let's do this.”
Since then, Harris has gained support and endorsements from many prominent Democratic politicians and leaders, including former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama.
When it comes to choosing a running mate, Reuters reported Monday that Harris had narrowed his choice to Walz or Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, with the outlet citing “three sources with knowledge of the matter.”
Harris was expected to make a final choice about a vice presidential running mate by Tuesday, when she was scheduled to make a public appearance at Temple University in Philadelphia, Reuters noted.
Walz's election of Harris comes as the incumbent vice president successfully secured enough delegate votes from the Democratic Party to officially secure the nomination for president.
While many progressives hailed this achievement, some, among them the organization Black Lives Matter, were concerned about the way she squeezed the nomination.
“We do not live in a dictatorship,” Black Lives Matter declared last month. “Installing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and an unknown vice president without any public voting process would make the modern Democratic Party a party of hypocrites.”
