Jigawa approves $65,000 for transfer of students from Sudan


The Jigawa government has approved the payment of $65,000 for transfer fees for 10 students from Sudan, which is currently in crisis.

Jigawa State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Saghir Musa, confirmed the government’s approval in Dutse on Thursday in a statement.

Professor Musa said the funds will be used to transfer students from Africa International University in Khartoum, Sudan to Integral University in India under its auspices due to the political conflict in Sudan.

According to Information Secretary Jigawa, the funds will be used for students’ tuition fees, accommodation costs, application fees, and foreign support services.

“The board approved a memorandum of understanding submitted by the Ministry of Higher Education regarding the payment of tuition, accommodation, application fees and international student support services for 10 Jigawa transfer students from Africa International University Khartoum, Sudan, to Integral University, India. “The cost was $65,650,” he said.

“Similarly, the council approved the sum of N53,562,295.80 solely for the payment of 12 months of living expenses, visas, air tickets and other arrangements for the travel arrangements of the students.

“The State Executive Council (SEC) also received progress reports from various committees constituted by Governor Umar Namadi in its meeting on Wednesday.”

Mr Musa said the progress report will be submitted to the Higher Education Commission of Inquiry into the activities of the Jigawa State COVID-19 Response Recovery and Economic Stimulus Plan (J-CARES), the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) and the College of Education and Islamic Studies at Ringim University. He added that it was about the association. Gumel Faculty of Education and Jigawa University of Technology in Dutse City, respectively.

“Following the presentations, the council deliberated and unanimously agreed to establish a committee to prepare a white paper on each report,” the Secretary added.
