Jaiz Bank appoints former GTBank executive Musa MD/CEO
The Board of Directors of Jaiz Bank Plc has approved the appointment of Haruna Musa, an experienced banker, as the bank’s new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Jaiz’s new MD/CEO joins the company with over 27 years of family experience in the banking industry.
Musa’s appointment was approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on November 21 with immediate effect, said a statement by the bank’s head of media relations, Mohammed Kandi.
Before being appointed as substantive MD/CEO of Jaiz Bank Plc, Haruna served as Executive Director of GT Bank for eight years. Out of his 27 years of rich banking experience, his 22 years were with Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) from March 2001 until October 2023.
In October 2015, Haruna assumed the role of Executive Director and Head of North East and Public Sector Abuja on the GT Bank Board. This is a testament to his professionalism, exemplary leadership traits, and ability.
He was also appointed Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors of GT Bank (Côte d’Ivoire Limited) from March 2015 to October 2023, where he contributed to the bank’s recovery from a loss. Stable profitability.
Musa is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, UK, Bayero University, Kano, and Cranfield University. He is currently in the final stages of his Ph.D. He holds a program in Islamic Banking and Finance from Universiti Utara, Malaysia.
At Cranfield University, Moosa completed his Master’s degree. PhD in Finance and Management (2008 – 2009). He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Bayero University, Kano (1997-1998) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the same university (1994-1995).
He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1987-1991).
The new MD/CEO has taken extensive executive-level courses, including the Advanced Management Program (2023) at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, USA. Making Corporate Boards More Effective – Harvard University, Harvard Business School, USA (2015). Positive Leadership Program – Michigan Ross Executive Education, USA (2014). General Management Program – Cranfield University, UK (2012).
His solid accomplishments include several letters of commendation for selflessness and meritorious service from former employers. He is also an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
