?It will not be out of place to declare an emergency on security - Former Senate President David Mark tells Tinubu

“It would not be out of place to declare a security emergency

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has said it is time for President Bola Tinubu to review the country's security architecture and declare a security emergency as security challenges in the country continue to escalate.

Mark said this on Tuesday, January 2, in a statement released by his media advisor, Paul Mumeh.

Mark, a retired general and politician, said the incidents in Plateau, in which 100 citizens were needlessly massacred, should serve as a wake-up call that the security challenge needs urgent attention.

“It will not be inappropriate to declare a security emergency,” he said. “Any measure taken to end the continued killing of citizens will be worth it,” Mark added.

He urged the government and security agencies to do more, saying life has become so cheap in Nigeria today that people have lost the humanity in them.

He asked the federal government to collaborate with subnational governments in the task of guaranteeing peace and security in the country.

He also advised against taking grievances to extremes, stating, “There are legitimate channels to resolve grievances rather than resorting to self-help.”
