Imo CP transfers DPO from Orji police station where rape suspect ‘escaped’

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Orji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Udom Godwin to the command headquarters, Owerri on standby due to an allegation of conspiracy, aid and complicity in the escape of one Ihee Andrewa, ‘m’ of Ahiazu Mbaise, a 30-year-old alleged serial rapist detained in the Division.

LIB reported that two out of three suspects accused of the gang rape of a 20-year-old girl were arrested and detained at the Orji police division. On Monday, November 27, police confirmed that one of the suspects, Ihee Henry, “escaped” from their custody.

A statement released by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, states that furthermore, CSP Udom Godwin and other officers serving in the division who are linked to the case received an official inquiry for gross dereliction of duty, discreditable conduct, lack of inspection, failure to send a status report, disobedience to legal order and act of sabotage and rudeness on the part of a public official, respectively.

Okoye added that the CP has mandated the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (DCSCIID) to carry out a comprehensive investigation and ensure that the suspects involved in the alleged rape case of a 20-year-old lady in Orji are all prisoners were forced to face the full wrath of the law. Furthermore, the DPO and other officers involved in the case have been subject to investigation and will be appropriately sanctioned if found to be accomplices.

Meanwhile, CSP Sabo BABA, an experienced police officer, has been posted to take over as DPO Orji
