Imo Catholic priest and driver kidnapped, ransom reduced from 50 million naira to 10 million naira


The armed group kidnapped a Catholic priest in Imo, Fr. Kingsley Eze and his driver Uchenna Newman demanded N10 million for the release of the hostages.

It was learned that the kidnappers had earlier demanded N50 million for the release of the priest and driver.

Father Eze is the Parish Priest of St. Michael Catholic Church, Umuuekebi, Osuowele, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of ​​Imo State.

Recall that on Thursday night, gunmen abducted a priest and his driver near Oriama Junction.

They also shot and killed a bystander, who was taken to an unidentified hospital.

A parishioner who did not wish to be named told reporters on Wednesday that the kidnappers had reduced their demand of 50 million naira to 10 million naira.

He disclosed that the kidnappers contacted the driver's wife on Sunday and Monday and demanded N50 million.

Parishioners said the kidnappers contacted them again on Wednesday and set the ransom at N10 million.

“They called the driver's wife on Sunday and Monday and demanded a payment of NOK 50 million,” the source said. However, I received another call and learned that the amount had been reduced to 10 million naira.
