Immigration chief orders investigation into passport fraud


The Auditor-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Caroline Adepoju, has ordered an investigation into allegations of passport theft in opposition to NIS officers within the South East.

The Public Relations Officer of the Immigration Service, Mr. Adedotun Alidegbe, acknowledged this in a press release issued in Abuja on Saturday.

Immigration officers within the area are accused of demanding extra charges for worldwide passports on prime of the common payment.

Mr Alidebe mentioned the service doesn’t condone any sort of unlawful or inappropriate conduct and any cops discovered accountable shall be topic to disciplinary motion.

“The National Intelligence Service is taking note of reviews of suspected misconduct by officers relating to passport theft.

“As a part of our efforts to take away these unhealthy actors from the authorities, a direct investigation into the allegations has been ordered and anybody discovered responsible shall be topic to sanctions.

“The CG and the Home Minister have directed an investigation into the allegations, which we are doing,” he mentioned.
