Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe named Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier and Matt Ritchie as three players who helped his team beat Chelsea 4-1 in Saturday’s Premier League match.
Howe said Lascelles, Trippier and Ritchie made sure Newcastle did not surrender to Chelsea at St James’ Park.
He also said the Magpies had issued a statement to the Blues.
Newcastle took the lead through Alexander Isak, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side equalized with Raheem Sterling’s superb free-kick.
However, three goals from Lascelles, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon in the second half gave the hosts three points.
Howe said in the post-match interview: We really asked our players to step up and we really deserved the win. A big plus from today.
“The leaders in the group set the tone: Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier, Matt Ritchie. They’re making sure we don’t surrender.”
