Hostel fire kills 13 people in Kazakhstan

A hostel fire killed 13 people in Almaty, Kazakhstan, authorities mentioned on Thursday, November 30.

The deaths had been brought on by carbon monoxide poisoning, based on the town’s emergency division.

“During the reconnaissance and extinguishing of the fire, 13 dead were initially discovered, their identities are being established,” the division mentioned in a press release. “Preliminarily, they died of carbon monoxide poisoning.”

The fire was reported shortly after 5:30am on Thursday (11:30pm GMT Wednesday). It all began in the basement of a three-story residential constructing.

The emergency division mentioned 72 people had been staying on the hostel on the time of the fire, 59 of whom had been evacuated safely.

At 6:22 am, the fire was extinguished.

Authorities are investigating the reason for the fire.
