He represents a decade of bad decisions in football – Souness insists Manchester United star should leave club

Former Scotland international Graeme Souness has claimed that Manchester United forward Anthony Martial represents a poor decision made during a decade of football at Old Trafford.

Souness said this while suggesting the Frenchman should leave Man United.

This comes after Martial's poor performance in Man United's 1-0 loss to Newcastle in the Premier League last weekend.

Martial has struggled to find consistency since joining Man United from Monaco for £36m in 2015.

“Was it four or five years ago when I wrote that this had to be the last chance saloon for Martial? There wasn't,” Souness told talkSPORT on Monday.

“What I'm saying by naming him is that they have consistently made the wrong decisions in football matters for 10 years.

“For me, Martial represents a poor decision in 10 years of football in the fact that he is still at the club.

“I'll tell you what happens with Martial. One day you look at him in training and you think, 'Oh my God, he's a player, there's a real player there,' but he… How many chances does he need to prove he belongs at a big club? His chance disappeared five years ago, he shouldn't have been there.

“He's just one of several big decisions they got wrong in football.”
