He gave a great performance – NFF urged Peceiro's contract extension

Sports Administrator Tayo Adeyemo has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to retain Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro.

He said Paceiro's contract extension will help the Super Eagles prepare early for the next AFCON.

Adeyemo said this during an interview with NAN in Lagos on Wednesday.

He also urged the NFF to focus on featuring home-based players to help Nigeria win the next African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco.

“Morocco will host the 35th Total Energy CAF, or Africa Cup of Nations, in 2025. The NFF should extend the contract with the coach,” he said.

He urged the Super Eagles and NFF to focus on the next AFCON and qualifiers if the team has to surpass its previous AFCON record.

Adeyemo said the team needs more dedicated, skilled and determined players if they are to win trophies in their next challenge.

“If international players are not ready, they should be more prepared in terms of training by playing more quality friendly matches with home-based players,” he said.

Adeyemo said the Super Eagles performed well and secured second place in the 2023 AFCON hosted by Ivory Coast.

“Before the tournament, many Nigerians did not expect the team to reach the finals or even qualify from the group stage.

“For the team to reach the final means the manager has performed well and he should be retained,” he said.
