Gunmen kill RCCG pastor’s wife in Taraba

Gunmen have killed the wife of a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mrs. Oluwakemi Moses Konye, ​​in Taraba State.

The Taraba Youth Transformation Initiative confirmed the incident in a Facebook post on Thursday, November 23, 2023.

According to the statement signed by the group’s Executive Director, Emmanuel Yakubu, the mother of one of them was shot dead in an attack that occurred along the Wukari-Jootar highway on November 17, 2023.

The deceased, accompanied by her two-month-old son, was traveling from Akure to Taraba to reunite with her husband.

“We urgently draw the attention of the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector General of Police to the relentless attacks taking place along the Wukari-Jootar Federal Highway at the junction of Taraba and Benue States. We are deeply disturbed by the recent incident involving Mrs. Oluwakemi Moses Konye, ​​a member of the Taraba Youth Transformation Initiative,” the statement read.

“Ms. Oluwakemi served as a member of the Youth Corps in 2019 and ended up marrying a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Taraba Province 1. She tragically lost her life in an attack while traveling from Akure to reunite with her husband , accompanied by her two-month-old son on 11/17/2023.Despite the heavy presence of military and police checkpoints along this route, incidents like these persist unchallenged.

“Numerous citizens, including a senior consultant at the federal medical center Jalingo, have faced similar ordeals. These occurrences require immediate action from the competent authorities.

“We implore the military and police to intervene urgently. Furthermore, we appeal to Senator David SU Jimkuta, representing Taraba South in the National Assembly, to use his influence to resolve this pressing issue.

“Today, Mrs. Oluwakemi leaves behind a two-month-old baby. We strongly condemn these criminal acts and call for swift action against these perpetrators.

“TYTI extends its gratitude to His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, Executive Governor of Taraba, for his efforts to improve security. We call for more support and collaboration with the Army and Air Force to safeguard the state.”
