Debunking CP, attack, and assassination claims
On Sunday night, some gunmen believed to be political thugs, accompanied by some police officers, allegedly stormed the Port Harcourt residence of Rivers State Rep. Edison Ehie.
The Rivers State House of Assembly Legislative Correspondent, Ken Uchendu, in a statement yesterday said the attack was an assassination attempt against Ehie.
It could not be confirmed whether any damage or casualties were recorded during the incident, but the Guardian has learned that the attack was thwarted by MPs’ security details.
Uchendu accused some senior police officials in the state of leading the onslaught, adding that the incident, which occurred around 11 p.m., “happened.” It was filmed by a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera.
He, however, called on President Bola Tinubu to hold the Rivers State Police Command accountable in case of breakdown of law and order in the state.
“Around 11:00 p.m. On Sunday, November 19th, a group of armed thugs and rogue police officers attached to CTU B 3 RSV attacked the private residence of the Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker (Ludwig). Mr. Edison Ogelenye Ehie, The criminals were fully armed to assassinate the chairman and his family.
“However, the thugs and rogue police officers were repulsed in a gunfight by the official security detail attached to the Chairman’s Rt. Sir. Edison Ogelenye Ehie.”
“It is essential to note that the armed thugs and police officers were properly and fully captured on CCTV footage inside the residence, which will be released as a record to national and international media.”
“Numbers of us, Rivers residents, boys, girls, women, men and the elderly, no matter how high our status, took to the streets naked in a demonstration against the Nigerian Police and those who support violence in Rivers State. Let it be recorded that the people of the river will resist them.
“Finally, if there is a breakdown of law and order in Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should hold the above-mentioned police officers, Rivers State Police Command and sponsors of Rivers State accountable.” the statement added.
In response, the state Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, denied the allegations of attack and assassination attempt on Ehie, saying preliminary investigations revealed that police officers regularly patrolled the area around the lawmaker’s house. He emphasized that it has become.
However, the party called on anyone with complaints to contact the command, adding that the command had not received any formal complaints from the MP so far.
“Preliminary investigations we have conducted so far this morning have not revealed any assassination attempts. “All I knew was that police officers were on routine patrol. We met with the leader and tried desperately to get him to give us the information he had so we could include it in the information we have. So far so good. And there’s nothing to worry about.
“My request to him and everyone else is that if you have a complaint, please call me immediately because my phone number will be published and I will investigate immediately. Therefore, so far I have not received any formal complaints,” Dis added.
