Gunmen assassinate PDP district chairman in Imo
Gunmen killed the District Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze District, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State Local Government Area, Hon. Smith Chiedoziem Anyanwu.
Dozie, as he was affectionately called, was shot dead in his residence, which also served as a commercial establishment, on Wednesday, November 23, 2023.
It was concluded that he was killed in the presence of his wife.
The Party’s Director of New Media, Lancelot Obiaku, confirmed the incident to journalists on Friday in Owerri.
“It is true that the incident happened. He was killed in the presence of his wife. Witnesses said there were two attackers and they were riding motorbikes. Upon arrival, they met his wife and asked about her husband,” Obiaku said.
“As soon as they spotted and identified him, they fired several shots at him and only left when they confirmed that he had taken his last breath.
“The district chairman’s order has shaken both the PDP family and its community. Following the technical knockout that the Party suffered in the state gubernatorial elections on November 11, 2023, his assassination could not have been more depressing.
“However, an unidentified woman in the Party recently threatened to harm it since the last governorship election in Imo,” he added.
