Group wants Enugu water facilities maintained
The Network for Water Rights Initiatives (NWRI) said the recently introduced water facility maintenance plan in Enugu State will ensure residents enjoy the facility.
Governor Peter Mba at the weekend commissioned the Ninth Smile and Oji River scheme to provide 120 million liters of water daily against the state’s supply of 2 million liters.
Amaka Nweke, the group’s national coordinator, commended Mba for fulfilling his election promise to restore potable water to the state within 180 days, commenting on the government’s efforts. Residents have been facing this for years.
“We need to make sure there is a sustainable plan for these facilities. The government should be able to come up with a maintenance plan and a maintenance plan so we don’t go back to where we were.” However, even though some of these facilities have been in existence for about 40 years, they are not functioning due to lack of maintenance.
“We are aware of the large number of reservoirs in the state and are concerned that these facilities should be protected. Let’s make a deliberate plan,” she added.
