Governor Yusuf dismisses 3,234 workers in Kano
At least 3,234 employees, including a 13-year-old girl allegedly recruited by former Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, towards the end of his administration, were dismissed by his successor, Abba Yusuf Kabir.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. the dismissed workers were ineligible for the Civil Service, claiming that some of them were minors, primary and secondary school students, while others were still pursuing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and some with fake certificates, among others.
Bichi said;
“Based on the observations and recommendations of the Technical Commission, the Governor, due to his concern and human disposition, approved the following: Reinstatement of a total of 9,332 employees who were considered eligible by the commission. Appropriate placement and posting/secondment of eligible personnel to relevant MDAs should be carried out for optimal utilization.
“The Verification Committee Report was received by the Government and its most important observations and recommendations were noted and accepted as follows: – That the majority of jobs were not included in the Approved Budget for 2023.
“That the hiring did not take into account the real labor needs of the respective MDAs, but was influenced by the desire to financially tie up the new Administration.
“Similarly, the majority of employees did not undergo recruitment screening and interview processes as expected by service regulations, while a significant percentage of employees did not apply for or indicate interest in serving, which constitutes an important aspect of the service requirements. job.
“It was also discovered that a number of students in their active years of study were employed, including students from secondary schools, secondary schools and some in the early stages of higher education, whilst some people recruited were attending their national course. Service Program (NYSC). Likewise, it was discovered that several people over or under the age of majority were employed and were on the State payroll.
“Several of the employees were found to have suspicious or fake certificates, while many non-indigenous people were employed, despite a large number of qualified unemployed indigenous people roaming our streets. That employees were improperly placed through secondment to non-professional positions or calling for their respective qualifications; and that there have been serious cases where officers with higher qualifications, attracting senior cadres, have been employed in the junior cadre of the service, contrary to the needs of MDAs and the approval granted for such employment.”
